According to a press release from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and Griffin Police Department, a 17-year-old is in custody on murder charges following the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old after a September 30 high school football game.

The shooting took place down the street from the stadium following the Griffin High-Spalding County High football game on September 30. A report posted by 11Alive stated that the alleged shooter, Kaomarion Kendrick, knew the victim, Emmanuel Dorsey. Follwong the game, a fight broke out between two groups. During the fight, Kendrick allegedly pulled a gun, which caused everyone to flee, the 11Alive story reports. Kendrick allegedly fired, hitting Dorsey in the face and neck.

Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix stated in the press release officers located Kendrick in nearby Henry County. Kendrick was located at a home in Henry County. He was armed with a Glock handgun with full-auto switch, the press release stated. Agents from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, Griffin Police Department, Henry County agencies, and the Georgia State Patrol assisted in the operation.

11Alive noted that there was “separation between the football game and the shooting.” The school system maintains that Kendrick did not enter the stadium with a gun.

Kendrick was arrested and transported to the Spalding County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a pistol by a person under 18, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and reckless conduct.
