Wiregrass Georgia Technical College hosted approximately 225 students for the annual Get Wired Event on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus.  Students from Fitzgerald High School College and Career Academy and Wiregrass Regional College and Career Academy from Douglas attended this event.  Students were able to engage in hands-on activities related to programs that led to careers offered at the college.

Students learned about Wiregrass programs and related careers through creative activities, such as Terminate Copper Cabling with Telecommunications and Security program, Personality and Career Quiz with One-Stop Enrollment and Success Center, and Computer Bingo in the Computer Information System Technology area.  “Our goal is to engage high school students that have shown interest in these related career fields in meaningful hands-on activities,” shared Lisa Cox, Assistant Director of High School Services. “This allows students to visit our campus and explore many career programs and talk with instructors as well as college students who assist with the activities.”

The programs represented at the event included Telecommunications and Security, Computer Information Systems, Industrial Systems Technology, Practical Nursing, Health Sciences Core, Nurse Aide, Cosmetology, Welding, and Distance Education. Other college departments provided life-skill activities, such as financial literacy, One-Stop Enrollment and Student Success, and Testing.

The college will be hosting No Fee November, where those who apply during that month will have their application fee waived.  The Spring Semester starts on January 8, 2024.  Visit www.wiregrass.edu to learn more about Wiregrass programs.
