In the pre-dawn hours Saturday morning, officers investigated a fatal side-by-side accident on Highway 32 in Nicholls.

The crash took place in front of Xtreme Cargo Trailers (the old Streat’s Coat Factory building). The side-by-side, a Polaris Ranger with two people aboard, reportedly lost control and flipped over. One of the occupants, Patrick Early Davis, 35, was ejected and suffered visible but non-life threatening injuries. The other occupant was trapped underneath the Ranger and did not survive the crash. Both were from Ware County. During the accident investigation, officers discovered a felony amount of marijuana at the scene.

Troopers from the Georgia State Patrol arrested Davis and deputies transported him to the Coffee County Jail where he remains. He was charged with vehicular homicide (first degree); operating a low speed vehicle on a highway; purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of marijuana; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of certain felonies; DUI; no safety belt; failure to maintain lane; no insurance; and no tag.

The accident remains under investigation.
