Two undefeated teams are in the Albany area high school football ranking top 10 along with one team with a losing record and three more with a .500 record.
The Colquitt County Packers are the top team in the area. The 7A Packers are 7-0 on the season with one region game under their belts — a 37-16 win over Camden County last Friday night. Colquitt’s biggest test of the year thus far came on September 22 when the Packers defeated Cedar Grove 50-42. The Packers are ranked third in Georgia and 12th in the nation, according to MaxPreps.
Lee County (6-1), Coffee (7-0), Cook (5-2), and Fitzgerald (5-2) round out the top five. Following the Purple Hurricanes are Crisp County (4-4), Monroe (Albany, 5-2), Tift (1-6), Dougherty (4-4) and Westover (4-4).
Lee is ranked 11th in the state and fourth in the 6A classification. Coffee sits atop the 5A rankings statewide and is 21st in the state across all classifications. Cook is ninth in the state in 2A and 106th in the state in all classifications. Fitzgerald sits right behind Cook at 10th in 2A and 110th in Georgia.
Teams are entering the final stretch of the season and the playoff pictures are beginning to emerge. Several teams are poised to make deep playoff runs and possibly contend for a championship.
