Three down, 16 to go.
Friday, Kenneth Chesebro, one of the 19 defendants indicted in the Fulton County RICO investigation into former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election, pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiring to file false documents.
Chesebro is the third defendant of the 19 who were indicted to plead guilty. Thursday afternoon, former Trump attorney Sidney Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges. Both Chesebro and Powell were set to begin trial Monday.
Prosecutors believe Chesebro is the individual who came up with the plan to utilize false electors in the aftermath of the 2020 election. Former Coffee County Republican Party chair Cathy Latham has been indicted in the case, in part for her alleged involvement as one of the fake electors.
As a result of his guilty plea, Chesebro will serve five years’ probation, pay a $5,000 fine, and perform 100 hours of community service. Like Atlanta bail bondsman Scott Hall and Powell, Chesebro will testify against the other defeandants in the case.
Another component of the plea deal is if Chesebro successfully completes his sentence, he will not have a criminal record.
