Beginning in November, most all of Coffee County starts making holiday plans. From concerts to sales to parades, Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year. Christian Wise came up with this year’s parade theme of “Christmas in a Small Town” and we can certainly show everyone around how great it is to live in this small town. Here are a few of the great things going on and stay tuned to the Facebook events page Christmas in Coffee for even more.

Downtown Holiday Open House – Sunday, November 19, 1-5pm in Downtown Douglas: The Downtown Holiday Open House is a fantastic event for local shoppers and visitors to enjoy! It is the perfect time to start your holiday shopping, enjoy the seasonal ambiance, and discover unique items from local businesses. It’s a day of awesome sales, delicious snacks and spending time with friends. It’s a fun and productive opportunity for both shopping enthusiasts and those just looking to soak in the holiday spirit.

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony – Friday, Dec. 1, 2023 at 6pm, Downtown Douglas, Atkinson Plaza: The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is a delightful holiday event that brings together the community to celebrate the festive season. Christmas carolers, the Mayor lighting the tree and photos with Santa start the evening. Then explore the downtown shops as they stay open late and showcase their Christmas window displays or maybe catch a Christmas movie in the Pocket Park or a Christmas concert at the Martin Centre Theater.

First Saturday in Downtown Douglas – Saturday, Dec 2, 2023: CHS’ Santa’s North Pole will be open in Atkinson Plaza full of fun arts & crafts and activities for the lids, plus Santa will be there for pictures by the giant Christmas Tree from 8am – 1pm. All of the downtown shops and restaurants will be open for all your Christmas needs. And stick around for the Christmas parade that evening.

59th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade – Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 Downtown Douglas at 6pm: Enjoy the beautiful lights and sounds of the holidays with the 59th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. After shopping and dining in downtown Douglas that day, marvel at all the floats and vehicles as they ride down Peterson Avenue and wave to your friends and neighbors. Stay till the end and see Santa in his sleigh. You don’t want to miss this holiday tradition.

The parade entry deadline is Nov. 22

“Christmas in a Small Town” is the theme of the 59th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade and we need your participation. We are looking for churches, businesses, clubs, groups, and organizations to help light up Peterson Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 2nd. Parade starts at 6pm and runs along Peterson Avenue from Jackson Street to College Park Drive (inside SGSC).

You can register online by going to our Facebook page – Visit Douglas-Coffee County GA and looking under the Events tab, come by the Chamber office at 114 N. Peterson Ave. and fill out a registration form, or email schilders@douglasga.org for a form. For more information, please call 912-384-1873.

Let’s make this holiday tradition one of the best parts of Christmas in Coffee.
