Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is racking up receiving yards at a breakneck pace this season. Eight games in, Hill is on track to break the single-season receiving record and top 2,000 yards.
Hall of famer Calvin Johnson holds the record with 1,964 yards — a mark he set in 2012. Before the season began, Hill stated that he was going to break 2,000 this year. After yesterday’s 31-17 win over the New England Patriots in which Hill caught eight passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, Hill has 1,014 yards in eight games. He’s on pace to amass 2,155 yards — which would shatter Johnson’s record (it is worth noting that now, teams play one more game per season than in years past; still, no one has topped Johnson’s mark even with the extra game).
Hill isn’t alone, either. The Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown is nipping at his heels and is also on pace to break Johnson’s record but not the 2,000 yard mark. According to NBC Sports, Brown is on track for 1,995 yards.
Last year, Hill was also on pace to break the record until quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered multiple injuries late in the year. If both Tagovailoa and Hill remain healthy, it’s going to be a fun race to the finish.
