After 35 years, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has made two arrests in the case of Baby Jane Doe, one of the state’s longest unsolved death cases.

On December 21, 1988, in Ware County, a road crew found the body of a 3 to 4 year old girl in a TV cabinet that had been thrown away off Duncan Bridge Road, which is near Millwood. No one came forward to claim the little girl’s body. Six years ago, The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children put together a composite image of Baby Jane Doe in the hopes that the image would lead to new information in the case.

That new information has finally come. News4Jax in Jacksonville, Fla., is reporting that Baby Jane Doe has been identified, and the little girl’s mother and stepfather have been arrested in connection with her death. The GBI is set to hold a press conference today at 1 p.m. in Waycross to discuss the case.

The News4Jax report states that the little girl’s name is Kenyatta Odom and her mother, Evelyn Odom (also known as Zmecca Luciana), and stepfather, Ulyster Sanders, allegedly killed her. The report says that a grand jury indicted the two in September but the indictment was filed on November 1. They were charged with felony murder, first degree child cruelty, aggravated battery-family violence, conspiracy to conceal a death, and concealing a death. Odom and Sanders were indicted in Dougherty County; they were living there at the time with Kenyatta and that’s where authorities believe she died. She was allegedly transported to Ware County and dumped there.

Sanders was arrested in Dougherty County and is being held in the Dougherty County Jail.
