The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce has announced that this year’s Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for Friday, December 8, 2023 at 7:00 pm due to the weather. (Trojans will play that following Wednesday if they win this weekend.) It will start an hour later than normal to allow traffic to lighten from downtown and for local businesses to be able to participate.  Parade line up will begin along Peterson Avenue between Jackson and Walker Streets at 5:30 pm. At 6:00 pm Peterson Avenue will be closed to new traffic from Walker Street to College Park Drive. Please reach out to the Chamber for more information on road closures.

The holiday festivities actually begin Friday at 2 pm with CHS’ Santa’s North Pole. FCCLA students will be in Atkinson Plaza with fun arts, crafts and activities for the kids, plus Santa and lots of his friends will be there for pictures by the giant Christmas Tree from 8am – 1pm. All of the downtown shops and restaurants will be open for all your Christmas needs.

There’s still time to register to be in this year’s parade. Registration forms and rules can be found on the Visit Douglas-Coffee County GA Facebook page or picked up at the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce located at 114 N. Peterson Avenue until Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5:00 pm. For more information about or for an application for the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade, please call (912) 384-1873 or email schilders@douglasga.org

And don’t miss the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony now on Thursday, November 30, at Atkinson Plaza. Mayor Tony Paulk will be there to light the giant tree and CCA Elementary Choir and CHS Chorus will be singing Christmas carols beginning at 5:30. There will be sweets and hot drinks available for purchase from Project Search Pop Up Coffee Shop. Plus Santa and his elves will be there for pictures and facepainting. Then explore the downtown shops as they stay open late and showcase their Christmas window displays. You can vote for your favorite. The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is a delightful holiday event that brings together the community to celebrate the festive season.

For more information about all the Christmas in Coffee activities, please call (912) 384-1873 or email chamber@douglasga.org
