Douglas Fire Chief Casey Wright and Acting Lieutenant Kleif Bussey have been named Fire Officer and Firefighter of the Year for 2023. They received the honors at the fire department’s annual banquet.
“We are so appreciative of all our firefighters and their job performance,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “Our firefighters work hard, train hard, and respond exceptionally well when called. The City of Douglas commends each and every one of our firefighters who serve our citizens every day.”
The criteria for selecting the Firefighter of the Year and Officer of the Year are based on job performance, interpersonal relations with co-workers and the public, as well as other criteria.
Acting Lieutenant Kleif Bussey began his career with the DFD as a volunteer firefighter in 2013 and became a full-time firefighter a year later. Acting Lieutenant Bussey was acknowledged for his diligence and hard work when responding to incidents as a firefighter.
Chief Wright was chosen for his acts of professionalism and consideration in dealing with the public. Chief Wright is a
26-year veteran of the Douglas Fire Department and has served in many roles within the department.
