The Coffee Trojans have certainly asserted themselves as one of the top teams in Georgia regardless of classification. However, their notoriety has spread beyond the borders of the state. The Trojans are ranked in three national polls – in two, they’re in the top 50 and in the third Coffee is just inside the top 100. With over 16,000 high school football teams in the United States, the Trojans are certainly in elite company.
Coffee’s highest ranking is in the Massey Ratings, where the Trojans make an appearance at #45 – up two spots from #47 last week. CalPreps has Coffee at #46 this week, which is a 16-place jump from the Trojans’ previous ranking of #62. Last week, Coffee was unranked in the MaxPreps poll. This week, however, the Trojans break in at #99.
Statewide, in Class 5A, Coffee is of course #1 after beating the Creekside Seminoles 31-14 in the state championship game Wednesday afternoon. The rest of the 5A top 10 is as follows: 2. Creekside, 3. Jefferson, 4. Cartersville, 5. Ware (tie), 5. Warner Robins (tie), 7. Hiram, 8. Dalton (tie), 8. Cass (tie), 10. Harris County.
Also worth noting is the Trojans’ defense finished the season as the top defense in Georgia regardless of classification. Coffee allowed just 6.7 points per game this year.
