A hit and run accident that occurred last week led to the arrest of a Waycross man on several traffic charges.

According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, an accident took place on December 15 just after 7 a.m. The wreck took place at the intersection of East Baker Highway and McDonald Road. The driver of vehicle two reported that another driver, identified as Axel Aquino Hernandez, 26, of Waycross, had struck her vehicle and left the scene.

Officers located Hernandez and stopped him. During the investigation, officers learned that Hernandez was leaving the In and Out parking lot attempting to cross Baker Highway when his vehicle struck vehicle 2, causing significant damage, the report stated. Officers also discovered that Aquino did not have a valid driver’s license, according to the report.

He was arrested and charged with hit and run, driving without a license, and failure to yield when entering or crossing a roadway. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail but has since been released.
