It worked — until it didn’t. Allegedly, of course.
On December 18, an individual identified as Tudarries Qua’Shun Eiland, 28, of Douglas, allegedly walked into the Circle K on the south end of town shortly before 9 p.m., picked up a 12-pack of Modelo beer, and brazenly walked out without paying.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, video footage from the store showed Eiland get out of a black Chrysler 300, walk in the story by himself, get the beer, and then leave. The responding officer knew Eiland lived on Shirley Avenue and that’s the direction he headed when he left the store.
The officer rode by the home and saw a black Chrysler 300 in the driveway. However, because Eiland has a history of fleeing law enforcement, according to the report, the officer returned later with more officers in case he resisted.
When the officers returned, they found Eiland sitting in a white SUV at the home. This time, Eiland complied with the officers and he was arrested without incident.
Eiland was charged with theft by shoplifting and criminal trespass. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail but he has since been released.
