A 45-year-old Douglas man remains in jail after he allegedly fought then pointed a gun at another individual at Evans Grocery on January 10, 2024.

According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on January 10, an employee reported that he had been assaulted while sitting on a bench in front of the store. The victim reported that while he was sitting on the bench, an individual, identified as Oscar Gonzalez-Hernandez, pulled up in a blue Nissan car and started talking to him.

The victim knew Gonzalez-Hernandez and they shook hands. After a brief conversation, the report says, the victim stood up. When he did, Gonzalez-Hernandez allegedly hit him in the face. The victim fought back and two went to the ground. They were eventually separated and Gonzalez-Hernandez left the store.

The report says that a few minutes later, Gonzalez-Hernandez returned in the same vehicle. He allegedly got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim and another store employee. Then he left again, the report says.

Officers arrived and looked at surveillance video. The video corroborated what the victim had said. The officer went to Gonzalez-Hernandez’s home nearby. The officer identified Gonzalez-Hernandez as the individual in the video. He also saw a AR-15 on the couch in the living room.

Gonzalez-Hernandez was arrested and charged with a variety of charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, criminal trespass-family violence, battery, disorderly conduct, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, driving without a license, and two probation violations. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail, where he remains.
