A Douglas man was charged with aggravated assault as a result of an alleged domestic dispute on January 14, 2024, according to a report from the Douglas Police Department.
Officers responded to the call just after 4:30 p.m. on January 14 and found a chaotic scene. The report states that the initial call was an altercation between Kenneth Williams, 47, and a female at the residence. The report says that Williams stated that the female was “acting up and throwing things at him.” He said that he wrapped his arms around her in an effort to get her to stop fighting him. He added that an altercation did not occur. One officer asked him where his wife was and, the report states, Williams said she was not at home. The report also says that Williams changed his story “several times about who was involved.”
In the report, the female said that she and Williams got into a fight about her being at the house. Williams tried to kick her out, she said in the report. She said Williams was trying to push her out of the front door and she threw something at him, hitting him in the head. Another officer asked her where Williams’s wife was. She had left the house right after the fight began was the reply. However, a few minutes later, the female stated that she was inside the home.
The officers went into the house and found the victim inside with a cut underneath her eye, marks on her left cheek, and a cut on her right arm. She was taken to the police department where she reported what happened.
At the station, the victim said that she and Williams began arguing over Williams’s cousin coming to their house. The report’s narrative shows that the situation escalated from there. The argument, which started on the front porch, moved inside the home and turned into a physical altercation, according to the report.
The first female victim the officers spoke to attempted to intervene, states the report. At that point, the fight went back outside to the front porch where the female victim suffered injuries that required treatment at Coffee Regional Medical Center, the report says.
Officers arrested Williams and transported him to the Coffee County Jail. He was charged with aggravated assault but has since been released.
