In November of 2023, Wendy Russ, a former accountant of 15 years, made her long-time dream come true when she opened a children’s clothing store called Sweet Magnolias. “We pride ourselves on having fashionable, high quality clothes but with affordable prices,” says Wendy.

Sweet Magnolias sells boys and girls children’s clothes that range from sizes newborn to 12, girls shoes, accessories, and toys. They even have a designated area for kids to play while parents shop.

Wendy says owning a business is something she has always wanted to do so when the opportunity came knocking, she answered. Sweet Magnolias is located at 222 South Peterson Ave. As Wendy and her husband Jeremy tell it, the building started off in the family in 1991, so when the chance came to have it again, everything just fell into place.

The Russ family has four girls and, according to Wendy, that helped inspire her to open her own children’s clothing store. “There was a need for a new children’s store in Douglas and I want my kids to be able to see that your dreams can come true,” says Wendy.

In addition to the brick and mortar store downtown, Sweet Magnolias also features online store that can be accessed through www.shopsweetmagnolias.com. Instore pickup, curbside pickup, local delivery, or shipping are all available.

Wendy and her family are looking forward to giving the community a new shopping experience for both parents and children.
