Keep Douglas Beautiful has received the prestigious 2023 Governor’s Circle Award for Outstanding Community Beautification and Environmental Sustainability Achievements. The Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGBF) presented the award for exemplary performance in litter reduction, waste minimization, and community greening.
To qualify for the Governor’s Circle Award, affiliates must be certified and in good standing with Keep America Beautiful (KAB), the national nonprofit that oversees state and local programming. Additionally, the affiliate must be an active member of the KGBF network. Certified KAB affiliates must effect meaningful, positive, and lasting change by directly addressing community needs in litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, and beautification.
“We believe everyone deserves to live in a clean, green, and beautiful environment,” said Natalie Johnston-Russell, executive director of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. “The recipients of this award have made a tremendous effort to achieve that vision, and we’re thrilled to recognize their achievements.”
In 2023, Keep Douglas Beautiful participated in the Clear Your Clutter Event, Great American Cleanup, Tire Amnesty Week, Junk Free Week, Jackie Allen Park Cleanup, planted fruit trees at Jackie Allen Park, Greenway Trail Plogging Event, Madison Avenue Park Cleanup, and the Little Libraries Initiative. Over 100 volunteers participated in cleanup events from civic organizations such as Ambitious Young Men, American Legion Post 515, CHS NJROTC, City of Douglas Employees, CHS FCCLA, Coffee Middle School Soccer Team, Douglas-Coffee County Teen Court, Douglas Lions Club, Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council, Douglas Masonic Lodge, and many individuals.
“We are so excited to receive this recognition,” says Christian Mikell, KDB Executive Director. “It takes great community partnerships and awesome volunteers for our events to make each a success. We appreciate all the support from our local government, civic organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners.”
