Mrs. Betty Jean Jowers McKinnon, age 85, of Willacoochee, Georgia went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born Thursday, February 9, 1939 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Dennis and Eva Carver Jowers. Mrs. McKinnon was a faithful and active member of Mora Baptist Church for many years. She loved the Lord, but her greatest earthly joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arlen McKinnon, Sr., 4 brothers: Ira Jowers, Richard Jowers, Charles Jowers, Tom Jowers; 3 sisters: Evelyn King, Julia Hutchinson, and Ethel Davis.

Mrs. McKinnon is survived by a son: Arlen McKinnon, Jr. and wife, Antoinette of Willacoochee, Georgia; daughter: Kathleen Merritt and husband, Ronald of Willacoochee, Georgia; 5 grandchildren: Kayla Merritt of Willacoochee, Georgia, Layne Merritt (Catelyn) of Tifton, Georgia, Hailey Courson (Austin) of Virginia, Hunter McKinnon of California, and Sarah Hodge of Valdosta, Georgia; 4 great-grandchildren: Samuel Merritt, McKinley Courson, Mason Courson, Maverick Courson; 3 brothers: Paul Jowers of Douglas, Georgia, Henry Jowers of Charleston, South Carolina, and John Alan Jowers of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters-in-law: Betty Jean Soles, Martha Denton (Billy) of Broxton, Georgia, Florine Phillips of Douglas, Georgia; Louise Maulden of Douglas, Georgia, Marie McKinnon of Willacoochee, Georgia, Dollie Mae McKinnon of Douglas, Georgia, Lucille McKinnon Burch of Willacoochee, Georgia and Irene McKinnon of Douglas, Georgia.

Several nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Mora Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Jowers and Rev. Dennis Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Mora Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 16, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home. Ms. McKinnon will be placed in the Church, Saturday morning at 9:00 AM till the funeral hour at 10:00 AM.

Active pallbearers will be Travis McKinnon, Layne Merritt, Hunter McKinnon, Dewey Jowers, Mike Jowers, Jeffery McKinnon and Logan Worth. Condolences may be left for the family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com.
