At the February meeting of the Coffee County Board of Commissioners, the commission approved a rezoning request for an area on Iron Road.

Tyrone Jordan brought the request to the commission and asked to rezone 5.01 acres at 1264 Iron Road from R2, Residential to RM, Residential Mixed. Jordan would like to put duplexes or quadraplexes on the property. Commissioners had held the first reading in January and came back in February for the second reading and public hearing. The Planning Commission and county staff agreed with the request. There had been no opposition to the request as it worked its way through the various agencies and boards, and no one showed up at the meeting to speak against it.

The request passed unanimously.

Commissioners also conducted the first reading of a request from Bruce Cato to annex 3.01 acres at the corner of Shantel Drive and Brantley Boulevard into the city. And the commission held the first reading of a request from Buddy Carver to rezone 1889 Highway 158 West from Agricultural to Commercial. He plans to build a metal building and move his business there. The commission will conduct the second readings and public hearings at the March meeting.

Commissioners also approved the following items:

  • Conway Vickers Road realignment project: The county will straighten out the intersection of Conway Vickers Road and Sink Hole Road. This project has been in the works for some time. The low bid came from Thrift Brothers for $414,000.65.
  • The purchase of a mini excavator with a mulching head for the Road Department for $182,646 from Yancey Brothers.
  • Alcohol licenses for Adalid DeJesus Hernandez at Fiesta Mexicana (old Po’ Boys) and Gopalbhai Patel at JP Minit Mart at 1413 Highway 221 North.
  • A $23,500 contract amendment for improvements to Callaway Drive, Larkspur Drive, Ashby Drive, and Sanibel Court.

Commissioners also made the following appointments:

Hospital Authority District 4: Keith Phillips, Scott Day and Rex Harper.

Tax Assessors Board Post 5: Jeffery Walter Pridgen

Seven Rivers RC&D Council: Stan Moore
