Valentine’s Day wasn’t a particularly happy occasion for two individuals allegedly involved in the illegal drug business.
According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested Matthew Corey Zanders, 32, of Douglas, and Carla Marie Mullinix, 32, of Manning, South Carolina, on illegal drug charges following a brief investigation in the Oak Park community. The report states that Mullinix attempted to hide a quantity of methamphetamine in her vagina to avoid arrest.
Officers from the drug unit were observing several different drug distribution locations at Oak Park when they saw Zanders traveling south on Highway 221. Officers had reason to believe that Zanders was selling drugs so they paid particular attention to where he went. The report says that he pulled behind a building and met a group of people, one of whom was Mullinix.
Mullinix was in a Nissan pickup and officers followed the truck after it left. Mullinix had an active arrest warrant for a probation violation. The pickup went to the Jet store at Oak Park. There, officers spoke with the driver of the truck, who gave consent to search. They found suspected methamphetamine in the passenger’s seat – where Mullinix had been sitting.
A deputy arrived to transport Mullinix to jail. In the past, the report says, she had hidden illegal drugs inside her person. The deputy asked her if she had drugs inside her and she said no. At the jail, a jail officer conducted a strip search and found a plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine in her vagina. The bag contained an estimated two grams of meth.
Mullinix was charged with two counts of possession of methamphetamine, probation violation, tampering with evidence, and crossing guard lines with illegal drugs.
Zanders was also arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and use of a communication facility in the commission of a felony involving controlled substances.
Both remain jailed.
