As they say, all good things must come to an end. The Coffee Trojans can attest to that – Tuesday night, their undefeated streak came to an end against the Brantley County Herons. Brantley bested Coffee 2-0 in what was a fantastic pitching performance by both teams. The Herons were just a little better at the plate and that proved to be the Trojans’ undoing.
Coffee used two pitchers in the contest. Payton Bryant started and went four innings. He gave up five hits, two runs (neither of which were earned), two walks and he struck out six. Carter McMillan took over in the fifth and surrendered a hit and two walks. He also struck out three Heron batters.
Brody Yeomans led off the bottom of the first for Brantley with a single. He moved to second and third on passed balls. On a 2-0 pitch, Colt Thrift singled to score Yeomans. In the bottom of the second, Yeomans factored into the offense again when he singled to score Mason Thomas, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch. The run put Brantley up 2-0 and that’s all the Herons would need.
Bryant led the way for Coffee at the plate with two hits. Cannon Jones, Ben Fussell, and Brax Carson also had a hit for the Trojans.
Coffee is now 6-1 on the season. Thursday, the Trojans travel to Vidalia for a 5:45 game before returning home to face Toombs County Friday at 6 p.m.
