Evelyn Spires Jones, age 92, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, March 7th, 2024. She was born on October 13th, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Gentry W. Spires and Ola Mae Brown Spires. She attended First Congregation Christian Church when she was able.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floran “Jake” Jones. Her father Gentry Spires, her mother Ola Mae Spires and two brothers Charles Spires, Thurman Spires, and one sister Colleen Spires.

Her survivors are one Sister Shirley Doyle and husband Michael C. Doyle of Douglas. One brother Howard Spires and wife Regina of Douglas. She also had several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 10th at 2:00PM in the Chapel at Sims Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday night between 6:00 and 9:00PM.

Pastor Matt Rutland of First Congregation Christian Church will be officiating.

Music selections include “It is Well with my Soul”, “In the Garden”, and “Go tell it on the mountain”, with vocalists Bruce and Cathy Tanner.

Active pallbearers include: Kody Garrison, Shaun Spires, Bruce Deen, Michael Doyle, Justin Vaughn, and Jacob Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers include: Harvey and Ann Vincent, Anthony and Margaret, Pam Turk, Margie and Raburn Bush, Barbara Day, Irma Ennett, Gary Moore, Randy Moore, and Chuck Spires.

Her interment will follow in Douglas City Cemetery, with Sims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
