A trespassing call at Georgian Woods Apartments ended up landing a Hazlehurst man in jail on aggravated stalking and drug possession charges, according to a report from the Douglas Police Department.
On February 27, 2024, just before 1 p.m., two police officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the complainant, who stated that she had a temporary restraining order against Garrette Sanders, 58, of Hazlehurst. Sanders was at the residence at the time, the report states. Sanders said that he was there to get some of his belongings and then he would leave. The officers allowed him to get his things and then escorted him off the property. The officers told him that if he came back without law enforcement at the scene, he would charged with aggravated stalking.
About three hours later, the report states that Sanders returned. Officers responded again and placed him under arrest on aggravated stalking charges. The officers searched Sanders during the arrest and found a rolled up cigar wrapper containing a white powder-like substance along with a rock of suspected illegal drugs.
Sanders was charged with aggravated stalking and possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
