On Friday, October 27, 2023, the Coffee Trojans defeated the Greenbrier Wolfpack 56-7 on the football field. On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, literally in the shadows of the stadium where that game took place, the Wolfpack returned the favor — this time on the baseball field. Greenbrier stormed Charles Wilson Field and defeated Coffee 15-2 in a run-rule shortened game in the first region contest of the year.

Things started out well enough for the Trojans. After retiring the Wolfpack in order in the first, Coffee took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame when Michael Strickland singled to score Ben Fussell.

Unfortunately that would be one of the few bright spots for Coffee over the next four innings. The Wolfpack scored four in the third, five in the fifth, and six in the sixth to take a 15-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Payton Bryant hit a solo home run to add one more for the Trojans. But that’s all Coffee would get.

Two Trojans took the mound: Bryant and Ben Roberts. Bryant went five innings and gave up nine runs (six earned) on seven hits. Roberts surrendered six runs (all earned) on four hits in one inning of relief.

The Trojans won’t have long to think about this one. They face the Wolfpack again in a double-header Thursday afternoon, this time at Greenbrier.. The Trojans are 11-2 on the season.
