Mr. Paul L. Hutcheson, age 91, of Douglas, Georgia passed away at Lakeside Senior Living, surrounded by his family Monday evening, February 26, 2024.
Mr. Hutcheson was born May 12, 1932 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Sammie Hutcheson and the late Addie Johnson Hutcheson. He was married for 67 years to the love of his life, the late Wanda Baker Hutcheson. Mr. Hutcheson proudly served our community as Sheriff of Coffee County prior to his retirement. Through the years he also served in many other capacities. He was a past president of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association, the last surviving charter member of the Douglas Exchange Club and the last surviving founding member of the Coffee County Kidney Foundation. He served for a time as the Governor’s Appointee on the Georgia Pardons and Paroles Board. Mr. Hutcheson was also the last surviving member of the Calvarymen Quartet. He was a member of West Ward Church of God, but most recently attended the First Assembly of God Douglas. Along with his wife and parents, Mr. Hutcheson was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Pauline Parsons, Sally Swineheart, Ann Sweat; and 2 brothers: Frank Hutcheson and J. H. “Bud” Hutcheson.
Mr. Hutcheson is survived by 3 children: Dewayne and Sheryl Hutcheson, Delain and Carl Morris and Rufus Hutcheson all of Douglas, Georgia; 1 sister Jewel Rahm of Jacksonville, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A number of nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Hutcheson will be held Thursday afternoon, February 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the First Assembly of God Douglas with Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hutcheson Family Mausoleum at Douglas City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM on Thursday in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Douglas.
