The CCA Patriots finished a strong baseball week, going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 21-6 in the process.
Monday, the Patriots defeated Grace Christian Academy 12-2 at home in five innings. Case Snipes had two hits and three RBI. Hunter Hayes had two hits and two RBI. Landon Williams and Jonathan Rutland each scored twice. Sam Ables threw a two-hit complete game, striking out five, waling three and giving up two runs (one earned).
Tuesday’s game at Robert Toombs was a nail-biter. Tied 3-3 in the tenth inning, Jackson Knight unloaded on a 2-1 pitch for a solo home run to put the Patriots up by one. Knight’s home run is the first of his career and the first of the season for the Patriots. Thomas Gentry retired Robert Toombs in order in the bottom of the tenth for the win. Landon Williams and Knight each had two hits. CCA used three pitchers in the game: Rutland (4 1/3 innings), Gray McLean (1 2/3 innings), and Gentry, who was the pitcher of record and picked up the win.
Thursday, behind a stellar performance from starter Blake Bryant, the Patriots took care of First Preparatory Christian Academy 5-1. Leading 1-0, CCA broke the game open with a three-run third inning that all but ended the contest. Both teams added a run in the fifth to bring the score to 5-1 CCA. Snipes had two hits. Rutland and Gentry each drove in a pair of runs while McLean scored twice. Bryant went six innings and struck out 14. He gave up one unearned run and only walked two. First Prep managed just three hits. Hayes picked up the save in one perfect inning of relief. He struck out two.
CCA is 7-2 on the season and play next at Trinity Christian on Monday afternoon.
