Joel Howard Spivey, age 72, of Nicholls GA, passed away on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born on October 14th, 1951 in Douglas, GA the son of Mr. James Aubrey Spivey and Mrs. Floriece Burkett Spivey.

He was a 1969 graduate of Coffee High School. He briefly attended South Georgia College, while working as a tobacco farmer. In 1971, he started his career in asphalt paving. Along with his father and brother they created Douglas Asphalt Company. The company grew to cover the southeastern portion of Georgia and employed more than five hundred people. Joel was an entrepreneur and was involved in various businesses throughout his life. He loved his community and was always quick to listen and show support. He had a giving heart and gave freely with no expectation of anything in return.

He is survived by: One Son; Kyle (Jennifer) Spivey of Douglas, GA, One Daughter; Lori (Adam) Smith of Douglas, Mother of his Children; Mary Jean Spivey, GA, Six Grandchildren; Drew (Karlee) Spivey, Jake Spivey, Mason Spivey, Ady Spivey, Kellah Smith, and Caroline Smith, One Great-Grandchild; Easton Spivey, One Brother; Ronnie (Teresa) Spivey of Douglas, GA, One Sister; Sharon Wooten on Broxton, GA, Special Friend; Christine Harper,along with several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by; Father; James Aubrey Spivey, Mother; Floriece Spivey, One Brother; Larry Spivey, One Brother-in-Law; Charlie Wooten.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, from 6:00PM until 9:00PM.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at Rocky Pond Baptist Church in Douglas, GA, at 2:00PM with Bro. Floyd Musgrove officiating and special speaker Ronnie Spivey, along with Bro. Rick Darby at the Graveside. Interment will follow at Rocky Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family would like for all donations to go to Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County. The address is P.O. Box 1203 Douglas, GA 31534.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
