If you’re going to allegedly flee a vehicle after you crash it, remember to grab your wallet.

A 33-year-old Douglas man, Jordan Ray Porter, was arrested and briefly jailed after he allegedly crashed a vehicle on Rebecca Waldron Road then left the scene, leaving his wallet behind in the wrecked car. Officers responded to the scene, found the wallet, and then went to Porter’s home, where he was arrested.

The incident report from the sheriff’s office states that an individual noticed an overturned vehicle in the area of 2707 Rebecca S. Waldron Road on March 30, 2024, around 3:15 a.m. The individual who called 911 was going to work and saw the vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, overturned in a ditch. The complainant called 911 and several officers responded. When they arrived, they did not find anyone in the Impala or in the area nearby.

According to the report, officers determined that the car had been traveling west and drifted onto the north shoulder of the road. Tire marks showed that the driver brought the car back onto the roadway and into the eastbound lane before leaving the road again and rolling over in the ditch.

Officers quickly determined who owned the car and spoke with the owner. She said that she had allowed Porter to drive the car and he should be the only one using it. After a tow truck flipped over the Impala, one of the officers found a wallet inside. The wallet belonged to Porter and showed that his address was close by. Officers also discovered that Porter’s license was suspended.

One of the deputies went to Porter’s home. He was there but denied driving the vehicle. The report states that Porter was argumentative and the deputy smelled alcohol on his breath.

The report also states that Porter said the car could have been stolen because it “was in high demand.”

The officers arrested Porter and transported him to the Coffee County Jail. He was charged with failure to maintain lane, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
