Thirsty Thursday turned into Fisticuffs Friday for a couple of Douglas men last week.
According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, two men, Matthew Bowen, 24, and Cameron Barton, 19, ended up on a fistfight at 2003 West Forest Drive near midnight on Thursday, April 4, 2024. The altercation landed both in jail but they quickly bonded out.
The report states that the complainant contacted 911 after Bowen went to the Forest Drive home “to get his belongings.” The home belonged to the complainant, the report says. The complainant, his girlfriend, along with several others, was there. But, the report states, Bowen was with another woman when he showed up. Bowen was drunk, “stumbling and could barely walk,” according to the report. He and the complainant began to argue. Then, the report says, the complainant’s sister also began arguing with Bowen.
According to the report, he pushed the sister to the ground. At that point, her boyfriend, Barton, got involved. The report says that Barton and Bowen began fighting and ended up on the ground. As the fight escalated, the complainant and her sister broke up the fight.
The report adds at that point, Bowen went inside to get his belongings. Bowen pushed the complainant and her mom “to the side” and recovered a few items. He got into a white Jeep with the other woman and left. A deputy found Bowen and the Jeep at a local convenience store and made contact with him there.
The report says that there were no physical marks on any of the others involved in the alleged altercation.
However, both Barton and Bowen were arrested early Friday morning, April 5, 2024, and charged with simple battery – family violence and transported to the Coffee County Jail. They were released on bond.
