On April 21, 2024, Rigford Ortiz-Davila, 29, of Douglas, was arrested after he
allegedly tried to stab his girlfriend in a room at the Comfortel Inn.
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department,
officers responded to a domestic dispute call at the Comfortel Inn. An
officer spoke with two witnesses who said they had pulled Ortiz-Davila off his
girlfriend as he attempted to stab her on the bed. The report says that
they got the knife away from Ortiz-Davila and separated the couple.
The victim stated that Ortiz-Davila was mad because of a text message that he
had seen on her phone from another man. The victim stated that Ortiz-Davila
had come into her room to get a towel and he “confronted her about the
message.” Then, the report says, the victim stated that he pushed her on
the bed then started punching and kicking her. She said he picked up a
knife and tried to stab her. She was able to move out of the way, the
report says, and the knife went into the bed. The report says that she
didn’t have any injuries and she refused treatment from EMS.
Officers then spoke with Ortiz-Davila who admitted to hitting and attempting
to stab the victim. He said that he went into her room to get his
belongings. The victim “was provoking him by laughing at him,” he said,
according to the report. Ortiz-Davila stated that he hit the victim on the
thigh with the side of his hand, according to the report. He added that
the victim told him to keep hitting her. Then he picked up the knife
with his left hand and attempted to stab her with it, the report says.
Ortiz-Davila was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He remains in
the Coffee County Jail.
