South Georgia State College (SGSC) students Emma Wilkerson and Benjamin Jared Davis, both of Douglas, Ga., were named to the All-Georgia Academic Team, a program recognizing the scholarly achievements of students enrolled in two-year programs at Georgia’s colleges and universities.

Colleges may nominate students from their campuses to the All-USA Academic Team.  Students from Georgia nominated to the national team make up the All-Georgia Academic Team. Nominations are based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is a valued partner of the All-Georgia Academic Team.

Emma is pursuing a degree in nursing from SGSC, with plans to continue her schooling and become a Nurse Practitioner. She has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since 2015, and her dream is to open a diabetes clinic in her hometown of Douglas.

She is the President of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Kappa Sigma chapter and Vice President of the Environmental Awareness Club. She also serves as an Ambassador for the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce. She made the President’s List for earning an average of 4.0 on 12 or more semester hours.

Benjamin Jared Davis was a graduate of Coffee High School. He plans to graduate with his associate degree from SGSC and then transfer to Georgia Southern University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Finance. Benjamin is a Phi Theta Kappa member and has been on the SGSC President’s List and Academic Honors List.

“Both Emma and Benjamin are true examples of exceptional students and ones who care about others and their community,” said Phi Theta Kappa advisor Amy Hancock. “They are dedicated to their coursework and maintain grades that show they are committed to academic excellence.”

By being named to the All-Georgia Team, they were able to attend the All-Georgia Academic Luncheon at the Coca-Cola Headquarters in downtown Atlanta recently. Dr. Jamie Williams, Senior Director of Scholarships and Enrichment Programs with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, was the keynote speaker and Ms. Jane Hopkins, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, gave a welcome and words of encouragement to the students and their guests. Both speakers praised the students for their academic accomplishments and recognized they will each have successful careers ahead of them in the future.

Phi Theta Kappa is the first honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 4.3 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 countries, with approximately 240,000 active members in the nation’s colleges. Learn more at ptk.org.
