Ame Wilkerson, Registrar and Phi Theta Kappa advisor for the Kappa Sigma chapter at South Georgia State College, has been selected as the recipient of a Hallmark Distinguished Advisor Award from Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

The award is presented to advisers with at least four or more years of service as of January 10, 2024. She received the award during the Georgia Region Spring Conference in March hosted by Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville.

She earned an associate degree from the former Waycross College where she became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Rho Omega chapter. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Management from Brigham Young University (BYU) and a Master of Public Administration from Valdosta State University. She became an advisor for the Kappa Sigma chapter on the Douglas campus in 2015 and works closely with the Alpha Rho Omega chapter on the Waycross campus.

Her PTK awards and honors include the horizon Award for Advisors and a Five Star Chapter Advisor.
She has also graduated from the University System of Georgia’s Executive Leadership Institute and been named as a recipient of the NISOD Excellence Award.

In the award nomination submitted by chapter members, they said, “Mrs. Wilkerson always makes time to meet with the chapter members and keep us on track when it comes to our goals for PTK. She helps us to become better leaders simply by letting us lead and by being there to help whenever we have questions.” They are appreciative of the time she invests in the chapter members. They continued, “She is always willing to take us to regional events out of town and if members can’t go, she gives them a recap of the conference or event so they can still feel a part of it. She wants to see us succeed and always makes sure we know she is there for us.”

Advisors are recognized for significant contributions to the growth of individual members, service as the chapter’s advocate on campus, and encouragement of the chapter to be involved on the local, regional, and/or international level of the organization.

Phi Theta Kappa is the first honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 4.3 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 countries, with approximately 240,000 active members in the nation’s colleges. Learn more at ptk.org.
