On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the GBI arrested and charged Pablo Miranda, age 32, of Pearson, Georgia, with Malice
Murder, Felony Murder, and Aggravated Assault, in connection to the death of
Johan Romero, age 27, of Pearson, GA.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office
requested the GBI to conduct a death investigation after receiving a 911 call
reporting an unresponsive man found in a car on Wright Road in Axson, Atkinson
County, Georgia. Deputies responded and found Romero dead in the car with
gunshot wounds. Physical evidence found at the scene and information provided
during interviews led investigators to Miranda. Law enforcement also executed a
search warrant at a home on Bullard Avenue in Pearson, Georgia, during the
investigation.

Miranda was booked into the Atkinson County Jail.

The Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Willacoochee Police
Department, and the Pearson Police Department assisted in the execution of the
search warrant and arrest.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Atkinson County
Sheriff’s Office at (912) 422-3611 or the GBI Regional Investigative Office in
Douglas at (912) 389-4103.  Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling
1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading
the See Something, Send Something mobile app.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the
Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review and
prosecution.
