Citizen Christian Academy senior London O’Steen has had a big week. Monday, she received one of four statewide scholarships from Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia. Then Wednesday, Positive Athletes named her the Most Positive girls’ basketball player in the state.
For the tenth consecutive year, the Positive Athlete organization has named its state award winners for the State of Georgia, where student-athletes representing 28 different boys’ and girls’ high school sports, two coaches, and Lakeside High School in Evans, GA have been selected as the “Most Positive” in their categories.
This year, over 6,800 nominations from coaches, principals, athletic directors, teachers, and parents were submitted for the Positive Athlete program state-wide, representing over 420 public and private high schools. Former Forest Park High School, University of Georgia and Pittsburgh Steelers star Hines Ward and local businessman Scott Pederson created Positive Athlete as a movement for more positivity in youth sports.
In addition to excellence on the field, each nominated Positive Athlete was required to show characteristics such as an optimistic attitude, teammate encouragement, servant leadership, heart for others, ability to admit imperfections, giving 100 percent all the time, and realizing the team as more important than the individual.
O’Steen has been very active in the Douglas-Coffee County community through the CCA LEO and Key clubs. She has also volunteered each summer with Camp 151, a gospel-centered one-week summer camp dedicated to serving others in the community through performing repairs on the homes of needy families. The tasks that O’Steen has completed during Camp 151 and the relationships she has forged changed her life and fostered the positive and encouraging character she exhibits today. O’Steen plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in regenerative bioscience. From there she will attend medical school.
