The Douglas Fire Department (DFD) has recently received a new instructional building at the DFD Fire Training Facility. This new modular building includes a spacious classroom-style training area, two offices, a storage room, and two restrooms. The facility is primarily used for training city firefighters, but it also offers its services to the Coffee County Fire Department and surrounding counties for training assistance as needed. The training areas on-site are diverse and extensive, including classroom training, a firehouse, a two-story burn building, a three-story rescue tower, a confined spaces training area, and live fire props. These training areas provide a comprehensive and realistic training experience to firefighters, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to handle emergencies that may arise.
DFD Fire Chief Casey Wright stated, “When firefighters are not responding to fire calls, performing equipment maintenance, or conducting fire safety training with the public and schools, they spend their work days at the fire training facility. Recently, they constructed two new firehouses. The department places high importance on the safety of its members, and thus firefighters receive over 240 hours of training each year. This extensive training equips them to limit injury, loss of property and life, as well as environmental damage.”
The State Fire Academy and the Georgia Spartan Firefighter Program also utilize this training facility whenever needed. With its classroom facility and well-equipped training areas, the DFD Fire Training Facility is a valuable resource for DFD firefighters and the region.
