On May 24, the Coffee High School Art Club hosted the third annual Trashin’ Fashion Show. Trashin’ Fashion is a cross curricular project based learning activity that involves the whole community. The project allows students to use what they have learned in Art, Math, Language Arts, and Environmental Science to create a wearable piece of art from discarded materials. The goal of Trashin’ Fashion is to encourage the entire community to be more aware of our impact on the environment and to become more creative in our reuse of materials.
Trashin’ Fashion began as a 12 look opening act for Douglas Duets in 2021, and has since become Douglas’ fashion event of the season. This year’s show featured 64 designs, all made from discarded and repurposed materials. The designers included CHS students, faculty, and local businesses who all share the goal of increasing awareness.
Local judges, Emily Courson, Mesha Clark Davis, Jennifer Raulerson, and Shelbie Carter, were tasked with scoring each look for creativity, wearability, and the use of materials. The designs were divided into two categories, student designers, and community participants. In the end, the following designers were awarded for their efforts.
