Dustin Jordan of Douglas has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that happened on Highway 135 across from Optima Chemical on Friday, February 8, 2019. Early that morning, Jordan struck and killed John Aubrey Pond, 28, of Willacoochee, and did not stop after the accident happened.

Pond had been walking home from a nearby convenience store when he was struck by Jordan’s vehicle. On the afternoon of February 8, 2019, officers located Jordan at a nearby business where he worked. He had been on his way to work when the accident happened. He was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree and leaving the scene of an accident. He was jailed and released on bond.

Wednesday, June 12, 2024, Jordan appeared in court and entered a guilty plea. His sentencing will take place in August. Prosecutors have suggested a 15-year sentence with five served in confinement and 10 on probation. However, the presiding judge will ultimately make the final decision.
