Citizens Christian Academy student London O’Steen has been named a recipient of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) Scholarship.
O’Steen is one of two graduating seniors statewide selected to receive a $4,500 GFA scholarship. Eight other graduating seniors were awarded $3,000 scholarships. The GFA scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding college students pursuing degrees in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College.
“Georgia Farm Bureau is proud to support the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture’s programs,” said GFA Board Chairman and GFB President Tom McCall. “The foundation offers these scholarships as an investment in the future of Georgia farming, and we’re excited to see what these students can do as they move into their agricultural careers.”
O’Steen, the daughter of Danny and Angie O’Steen, plans to attend the University of Georgia and study regenerative bioscience. London was an inaugural member of CCA’s first FFA charter in 2018 and has served as an officer and student advisor in FFA as well as participating in numerous career development events. In the 10th grade, London received the FFA 2022 Chapter STAR Greenhand Award. In her 11th- and 12th-grade years, she served on the Coffee County Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Junior Board of Directors, including chairmanship for 2023-24.
London is a two-time recipient of both the President’s Educational Award of Excellence and the national Carson Scholarship. London is CCA’s 2024 senior class president, a member of the National Honor Society and has served with numerous community volunteer organizations. These include the First National Bank Junior Board of Directors, the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce Student Ambassadors and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as serving as a student volunteer at Coffee Regional Medical Center. She is a four-sport scholar athlete (softball, spirit cheer, track and field, and basketball), and was selected to play in the 2023 GIAA Softball All-Star Game.
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students pursuing an agriculture or ag-related degree at an eligible technical college (such as welding, diesel mechanics, vet tech) or college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College. Instructions for applying for the 2023 GFA scholarships will be announced at www.gafoundationag.org/scholarships in January 2023.
