The day after an Atkinson County woman allegedly attacked her husband with a machete, Senie Benefield Jr., 30, of Douglas, allegedly also injured someone in Coffee County with a machete.

The incident happened on May 28, 2024, on Second Avenue in the Oak Park community. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s, Office, Benefield went to a mobile home on Second Avenue looking for a female who owed him $150. Benefield was told she wasn’t there and he was asked to leave. The report says that Benefield left but returned with a machete and three friends. He was angry and saying he wasn’t
leaving without his money, according to the report. Benefield then began swinging the machete at the individual who lives at the home, cutting him on the right hand and fingers. Benefield and his
accomplices then ran north. A witness corroborated the victim’s statement in the report.

Three officers searched for Benefield and found him at a nearby home. The report says that Benefield was hiding under a blanket in one of the home’s bedrooms. They also found a machete matching the description of the one used in the alleged attack in the same room.

In the report, Benefield admitted that he went to the mobile home twice looking for the woman who owed him money. However, he denied attacking the victim with the machete, instead saying that the victim
actually attacked him. The report says that Benefield claimed that as the victim swung the machete at him, the victim lost his grip, the machete hit a tree, bounced back, and caused the injuries. The
officers didn’t buy his story and placed him under arrest for aggravated assault. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
