Saturday night, Angel Louis Arbelo, 28, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested on numerous charges in connection with a chase that took place in the city around 8 p.m.
Deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on several motorcyclists who were in town for an event (not the charity poker run that also took place on Saturday; that was a completely different group) at a clubhouse in the Oak Park community. When officers attempted to stop the bikes near Anderson Ford, they allegedly fled in different directions. Arbelo headed through town, ended up on Peterson Avenue, and allegedly fled south. Arbelo turned into Douglas Square then turned left again and rode his bike into the Tidal Wave Car Wash parking lot. He ditched his bike then took off on foot through Tidal Wave and into Peterson Avenue. Officers eventually captured Arbelo in the roadway near Burger King and Belk. The Georgia State Patrol and Douglas Police Department assisted with the chase.
Arbelo, who was the only motorcyclist apprehended, was charged with alteration of license plates, DUI, VGCSA, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, speeding, wrong class license, and obstruction.
Arbelo remains in the Coffee County Jail.
