An alleged domestic dispute that occurred on July 7, 2024, resulted in a double stabbing — one victim was allegedly stabbed with a broken broom stick while the other was wounded with a knife.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, Jerry Manning, 55, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a broken broom stick handle. She responded, the report says, by stabbing him with a knife. She was not charged in the incident.
The report says that Manning and the victim had gotten into an argument. They were dating but did not live together. A witness stated that Manning broke a broom and attacked the victim, which resulted in a cut on her left forearm. The witness said that the victim then stabbed Manning.
EMS arrived at the scene and attempted to take Manning to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment to a stab wound on his left shoulder. They told him his wound would need stitches but he refused.
Officers transported Manning to the Coffee County Jail. On the way, the report says that Manning laid down and acted like he had passed out. At the jail, the report adds that Manning fell out of the patrol vehicle and would not get up. Officers secured a wheelchair to get him inside but jail officials told them he couldn’t come in unless he had been seen at the emergency room. They took him to CRMC where he received five staples for his wound.
The victim was also treated at CRMC; her wound required 10 stitches.
Manning has not been released.
