A 26-year-old Douglas woman was arrested on illegal drug charges after she was found behind Fletcher Oil asleep in her vehicle with the vehicle still in drive and suspected illegal drugs in her lap. During the investigation, she also allegedly fought two police officers, resulting in even more charges.
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, Cassidy Summerlin, 26, of Douglas, was found just after 8 a.m. on July 15, 2024, sleeping in her car behind the business. Two officers arrived — one male, one female — and attempted to put the vehicle in park and secure the drugs, suspected to be marijuana, that were in her lap. According to the report, Summerlin woke up and put the car in park.
During the investigation, the report says that officers found a glass pipe and a few pills in addition to the suspected marijuana. Once out of the vehicle, the report says that Summerlin became uncooperative and attempted to flee. The female officer tackled Summerlin, according to the report. While they were on the ground, Summerlin continued fighting. The officers ended up dry stunning her shoulder in order to gain control, the report says.
Once they had Summerlin under control, the officers attempted to place her in a patrol car. The report says she continued fighting, kicking and spitting in the officers’ faces. At one point, the report says that Summerlin head butted the male officer. The report states that Summerlin wouldn’t get into the vehicle and spit in the female officer’s face. She leaned in again to spit a second time when the female officer struck Summerlin with an open palm. The impact froze Summerlin, which allowed the officers to get her in the vehicle, according to the report.
She allegedly continued kicking and screaming inside the vehicle, eventually breaking both door handles in the back seat. She was arrested and charged with obstruction (two counts), possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, interference with government property, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of a drug related object, and simple battery on a police officer (two counts). She remains in the Coffee County Jail.
