August 3, 2024, will go down as one of the better days of Tyreek Hill’s life. NFL.com named Hill the best player in the league for the 2024 season and Hill inked a $90 million contract extension with the Miami Dolphins.
In 2022, Hill signed a four-year, $120 million contract when the Kansas City Chiefs traded him to Miami. Over the first half of that contract, Hill has proven to be the best wide receiver in the NFL. This offseason, teammates Jaylen Waddle, a fellow receiver, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have signed massive contracts. Hill, however, saw his deal remain unchanged. Without Hill, neither Waddle nor Tagovailoa would have gotten the deals they did.
Saturday, news broke that the Dolphins had duly rewarded their star receiver.
Hill’s deal is worth $90 million over the next three years, according to an ESPN report. Of that, $65 million is guaranteed. With the contract that is already in place, Hill is now guaranteed $106.5 million, believed to be the most ever for a wide receiver, according to ESPN.
Since being traded to Miami, Hill leads all players with 3,509 yards. One receiver, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, has been a target for his team more than Hill has for the Dolphins, ESPN states. The ESPN report also says that Hill and the Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson are tied for the most receptions of at least 20 yards with 54 over that time span. Hill is also tops among skill players with nine plays of at least 50 yards over the last two years, writes ESPN.
In short, Hill has revamped Miami’s offense and turned it into one of the most explosive in the NFL. He has made the players around him better and helped Tagovailoa put up some of the best passing statistics in the NFL. Hill has also served as one of the Dolphins’ captains and matured as both a player and a person. Miami’s front office has recognized Hill’s contributions and rewarded him accordingly.
The Dolphins open the regular season on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
