An active arrest warrant for fleeing/attempting to elude officers. Illegal drugs. Guns. Cash. This is one of THOSE kinds of stories.
On August 7, 2024, county drug unit detectives were on patrol in the city. During the operation, an officer saw Christopher Lamar Hawkins driving a white 2021 Kia Sorento, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. Hawkins had an active warrant for fleeing/attempting to elude from a car chase that occurred on June 26, 2024. He also had a warrant for possession of methamphetamine.
A detective stopped Hawkins at the apartments on North Wheeler Avenue, specifically in front of units number 203/204, according to the report. When officers were talking with Hawkins, Breanna Henderson came out of 203 to see what was going on, the report states. The two were whispering to each other, according to the report. The officers arrested Hawkins and transported him to the Coffee County Jail.
After Hawkins was arrested, officers continued to watch Henderson’s apartment. Henderson eventually left the apartment in a Hyundai Sonata. She allegedly made an improper turn on to Peterson Avenue and an officer stopped her vehicle. A K9 unit alerted on the vehicle and offices found a small amount of methamphetamine on the driver’s seat, the report says. She was arrested and taken to the Coffee County Jail.
At the jail, Henderson and Hawkins saw each other and a jailer reported that Hawkins had whispered to Henderson about something inside the apartment. According to the report, officers believed the object was a quantity of illegal drugs that Hawkins was going to sell that day. That’s why he was headed to the apartment when he was stopped. Another detective applied for a search warrant of the apartment, which was granted, the report says.
The search yielded 22 grams of suspected cocaine and two rifles (a 7.62 Draco and Rossi .22 LR). The guns were believed to belong to Hawkins, the report stated. Henderson also had $997 in cash on her when she was arrested, the report says.
Hawkins was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude, obstruction, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm or knife in the commission of a felony. Henderson was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and two counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.
Henderson has since been released from the Coffee County Jail. Hawkins, however, remains incarcerated.
