Coffee County Schools and the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority (EDA) recently attended the Foundational Leadership & Entrepreneurial Experience (FLEX) Implementation Workshop. This workshop marks the official launch of their participation in the program for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
The Implementation Workshop, held on August 8 in Tifton, Georgia, was designed to equip communities with the foundational knowledge and tools needed to run a successful program. Throughout the workshop, attendees engaged in hands-on activities, interactive sessions, and discussions led by Georgia FLEX Executive Director, Melissa Dark.
FLEX is a unique, community-driven initiative that brings together local businesses, educators, and students to inspire and cultivate young entrepreneurs. The program provides students with the opportunity to develop real-world business skills by creating and managing their own businesses with the mentorship and support of experienced local business leaders.
Local businesses play a crucial role in the FLEX program, offering not only mentorship but also resources and real-world insights that will help students navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. By partnering with these businesses, students gain a unique perspective on what it takes to run a successful enterprise and contribute to the local economy.
The FLEX Student Entrepreneur Program is also a competition, with large amounts of prize money at stake. Students will participate in the program throughout the school year to develop and launch their businesses. They will receive ongoing support and guidance from their mentors and will have the opportunity to showcase their businesses at a community-wide event later in the year.
The FLEX program is a perfect example of how collaboration between schools and local businesses can create meaningful opportunities for young people. Not only does this experience open students up to the possibility of entrepreneurship, but it also teaches them valuable skills for the workforce.
As the program progresses, we look forward to seeing the innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit of its students come to life. The FLEX program not only empowers students but also strengthens the ties between the school system and the local business community, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
