A badly decomposed body was found in southern Jeff Davis County near Snipesville this weekend. Because of the state of decomposition, officials have not been able to determine the identity of the victim or the cause/manner of death.

According to a press release from the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and other first responders received a call on Bennie Byrd Road (just off the Broxton Highway) in the Snipesville community in reference to what appeared to be the remains of a human body.

Upon arrival, deputies confirmed it was a deceased body. The sheriff’s office requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit process the scene and help with the investigation. The body was removed, transported and will be examined by the GBI Crime Lab to determine the cause of death and identify the victim.

This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Jeff Davis Sheriffs’ Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation ask if anyone has any information related to this incident please call the Jeff Davis Sheriffs’ Office at (912)-375-6600 or the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at (912) 389-4103.
