The World War II Flight Training Museum, 63rd Preservation Society, Douglas Air Base Preservation & Development Committee, and the City of Douglas invite the public to attend a significant groundbreaking ceremony at the 63rd Army Air Force Contract Pilot School (Primary), also known as the World War II Air Base, on Monday, September 9, 2024, 10 a.m. at 1 Airport Circle. The ceremony aims to pay a special tribute to the cadets of the World War II era who underwent primary flight training in Douglas, as well as to Major Charles J. Loring, Jr., a distinguished former cadet and a valorous recipient of the Medal of Honor.

The project will consist of numerous improvements throughout the base, including renaming the roadside park, adding park amenities, resurfacing Airport Circle roads, installing lighting, paving the little dirt road extension off Airport Circle, and continuing the rehabilitation of the historic buildings.

For more information about the groundbreaking ceremony or the Airport projects, please contact Georgia Henderson, Community Development Director, at (912) 383-0277.
