A 45-year-old Douglas man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly used an air fryer as a weapon during a domestic dispute. The incident happened just after midnight on August 14, 2024.
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, officers received a call of a domestic dispute in progress on Bo Jo Ella Drive. When they arrived, they found the victim lying on the floor of the carport suffering from abdominal pain. She was also bleeding from a wound on her head.
A witness stated that he had been inside the house when he heard the victim scream. He went outside and saw the alleged assailant, Vincent Daniels, 45, of Douglas, standing over her. He attempted to pull Daniels away from the victim, the report says, and the two began struggling with each other. The witness had a scratch on his face, the report says. Daniels then fled.
An officer went inside the house and saw blood on the kitchen floor and countertops, the report says. He noticed an air fryer on the dining room table with the pan removed. The pan was on the floor by the pantry with two dents in it, according to the report.
Officers also contacted EMS. The victim stated that she had been hit twice in the abdomen, the report states. However, she repeatedly said she did not want medical treatment. Officers on the scene still called EMS.
In the report, the victim stated that she and Daniels began arguing. She couldn’t even remember what they were arguing about. She said that he had been drinking and when he drinks, he gets angry. During the argument, she said he picked up the air fryer and hit her in the head with it “multiple times,” the report states. She then ran out of the house and he followed her, punching her twice in the abdomen.
The witness stated that Daniels is a veteran and suffers from untreated PTSD, the report says.
The victim eventually left the scene with EMS. Officers continued searching for Daniels and found him hiding in a crawl space under the house. Daniels was arrested and charged with aggravated assault (family violence). He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and has since been released.
