A 47-year-old Douglas man remains in the Coffee County Jail after he allegedly tried to hold his mother in her apartment against her will while he was high on drugs. The alleged incident took place on August 28, 2024, just before 3:00 p.m.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, the victim, a 77-year-old female, lived in an apartment on Lupo Lane in Douglas. When officers arrived, the victim reported that she had been in her room inside the apartment with her son, Jason Corey Spivey, 47. She said that she attempted to call her sister on her cell phone and Spivey wouldn’t let her. She tried to leave the room multiple times and he would stand in front of the door to keep her from leaving.
The report says that he finally left the apartment to go to his sister’s nearby apartment. When he did, the victim left and found a neighbor. Together, the two of them went to the victim’s daughter’s apartment and called 911.
The daughter of the victim (and Spivey’s sister) stated that Spivey had come to her house and was banging on her door. He was yelling that he couldn’t take care of their mother anymore, the report says. The daughter then saw her mother leave her apartment. When Spivey saw her outside, he ran back to her and attempted to get her back inside. The victim’s daughter told Spivey that he couldn’t hold their mother hostage and he said he could, according to the report.
An officer spoke with Spivey and told him that he couldn’t keep his mother against her will in her apartment. Spivey was arrested and charged with false imprisonment. He was taken to the Coffee County Jail and remains incarcerated. No one was injured in the incident.
