The CCA Lady Patriots improved to 9-3 on the season Monday afternoon with a 14-10 win over the Crisp Academy Wildcats in Douglas. Emma Gourley and Emy Lowery paced the Lady Patriots at the plate with each collecting three hits. CCA tallied 12 total hits in the game.
The Wildcats scored one run in the top of the first. The Lady Patriots answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Lowery doubled to score two. One more crossed the plate when Cadence Cravey was hit by a pitch.
In the bottom of the second, CCA scored five runs to take an 8-1 lead. Gracie Giddens drove in one with a single. Mattie Lewis followed with a sacrifice fly that scored another Lady Patriot. Madi Rucker doubled, driving in two, and Abrah Harris drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
The Lady Patriots scored five more in the bottom of the third, three of which came on Lewis’s home run to center. Lowery and Giddens also drove in runs that inning.
The Wildcats showed some fight of their own, scoring two in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one in the seventh. CCA had a 13-9 lead after four and a half then added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Crisp Academy hit double digits with a lone run in the seventh.
Peighton Harper earned the win with a five-inning outing. She gave up nine hits and nine runs (all earned) while walking one and striking out one. Giddens threw two innings in relief, giving up one earned run on one hit. She struck out three and didn’t walk anyone.
CCA is 2-2 over their last four games. In addition to today’s win over Crisp Academy, the Lady Patriots defeated Echols County 12-0 on September 9. They suffered a tough extra innings to David Emmanuel Academy 5-4 and an 8-4 loss to Trinity Christian on September 10. CCA faces Robert Toombs Christian Academy tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Douglas.
